The summer is here and in Toronto it is HOT! My desperate cravings for water and desire to sit by the lake have led me on a contemplative streak. What is water and why is it so important to us? What does it do for us energetically that makes it so essential?
Water: the Element of Emotions
The element of water is an important element in our day to day lives. Well, all of the elements are equally important, but water is perhaps the first and foremost element that we struggle with. Why do I say that? Well, water represents our emotional health; and let’s face it…most of us on a daily basis are stressed, angry, upset, annoyed, or fearful or we express a whole range of negative emotions and behaviors that are a reflection of the emotional pain we suffer on a daily basis.
Now please don’t get me wrong…water and its power to influence our emotions is a good thing! In fact, each of the three water signs in the zodiac represents a cleansing phase where we can wash away that negativity and restore our emotional health. For example, Cancer helps us to wash away our attachments and insecurities. Scorpio helps us to cleanse anger, jealousy and the desire for superiority. And lastly, Pisces helps us to wash away feelings of being a victim, powerlessness and fear.
So as we are currently in the realm of Cancer, allow yourself some time alone to express and unburden yourself of unhealthy emotions so that you have to carry them around anymore. Journaling, art, music or any other form of healthy expression can go a long way to restoring your emotional health and bringing you to a much more positive state.
Water: the element of the arts and creativity
Speaking of the arts, the water element also rules over our creative gifts. For those who are artistically inclined, when the Sun transits into Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces, this is the time to immerse yourself in your work and indulge in the flow that you create. For those who have upcoming projects that they are starting or want to start, take some time for reflection and inspiration and see what comes to you. Your reflection times can help you to envision wonderful projects or business ideas or solutions to problems that have never struck your mind before.
The receptive nature of the water element can inspire beautiful visions, music, dance and other forms of art. And the best part is that you don’t have to be a water sign to connect to the artistic and creative aspects of the element of water. It is inherent in us and the more we work with it and let it “flow” (yes, pun intended) the more we can embrace our own powers of expression.
Water: the element of receptivity and psychic abilities
Lastly, the water signs of the zodiac are all said to be indicators of psychic gifts. The reflective qualities of these signs are said to bring gifts of empathy, healing and clairvoyance. As we look at the element of water in our own charts and the planets that deal with water (the Moon for example) we can gain insight into how we function on emotional and intuitive levels. For those of you who study your own chart, you will find much insight into how your emotions and intuition function and any habits or emotional challenges that you need to overcome to help make your understanding of your intuition clearer.
For those of you who haven’t got a clue, I cannot stress enough how important it is to come to know the nature and energies in your chart! How the element of water functions in your chart will reveal much to you and give you insight as to how you can live a healthier emotional life!
How to assess your relationship with the element of water:
As human beings, we function optimally when we are balanced in all 4 elements. That beings said, due to factors in our charts, our upbringings, values and cultures, we can entrench ourselves in water energy that is out of balance. Take a look at the chart below. The amount of water in your chart is not the only factor that determines your relationship and you may find yourself balanced in certain respects and not others. This can however provide a very basic guideline for you to assess the relationship you have with the element of water so that you can change it and bring it into balance.
How to connect with the element of water:
The easiest way to start connecting with the element of water is to start by simply drinking more water! While water in the physical versus energetic states are not the same, a connection is present! There are many ways to connect with the magick of water: visit local bodies of water and build a relationship, take magickal baths, drink gemstone elixirs, collect water from the rain and from different parts of the world. The biggest key in any of these methods is to remember that water has its own innate intelligence – treat it like you would any other being of intelligence and you will already find that your relationship improves.
For those of you who have experienced some of the ceremonies that I lead with the Toronto Wicca Community at the Modern Mystery School or at the Spiritual Emporium in Mississauga, Wicca is an incredibly powerful way to begin building your relationship to the element of water and indeed with the rest of the elements as well! Wicca has taken my own understanding of the astrological powers even deeper and has given me tools to change the aspects and energies of my chart that were not serving me.
This concludes my posting on the Astrological Waters. I sincerely hope that you are able to take this information and develop a healthy relationship with the element of water and allow it to cleanse your emotions and your life!
May we all be cleansed by the astrological waters and may these waters bring us many gifts!
